_Use of laxatives, enemas, or diuretics to get rid of food

_Self worth determined by what is not eaten
_Preoccupied thoughts of food
-Limited social spontaneity
Physiological Signs:
_Weight loss
_Discolored and cold fingers/toes.
_Loss of period without cause
_Paleness
_Complaints of being cold

_Edema (swelling)

_Weight fluctuations

Binge Eating Disorder
*Binge eating disorder is not yet included in the DSM-IV.
Recently, binge eating disorder has received a large amount
of media coverage as its huge presence in our society has
been uncovered. Live As You Are wants to recognize this as
an eating disorder and offer support to those who suffer.
Below you can find research criteria for binge eating disorder
according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental
Disorders (DSM IV).
_Recurrent episodes of binge eating characterized by the
following:
-Eating in a short amount of time, an amount of food that
is definitely larger than most people would eat in a similar
amount of time and under similar circumstances
-A feeling that one cannot stop eating or control what or
how much one is eating
_The binge-eating episodes are associated with three (or
more) of the following:
-Eating much more rapidly than normal
-Eating until feeling uncomfortably full
-Eating large amounts of food when not feeling hungry
-Eating alone
-Feeling disgusted with oneself, depressed, or guilty after
overeating.
_Marked distress when binge eating is present
_The binge eating occurs, on average, at least 2 days a week
for 6 months
_The binge eating is not associated with the regular use of
inappropriate compensatory behaviors (e.g. purging,, fasting,
excessive exercise)
